Philip Brickman joined the firm in 2004 and is a native of New Orleans. For over 13 years, he has been practicing nearly every aspect of maritime and energy law throughout the Gulf Coast and internationally.
Most recently, he was closely involved with providing legal advice in connection with Deepwater Horizon response. Mr. Brickman’s direct involvement included coordination and preservation of key evidence, investigation of the blowout preventer, liaising with state and federal authorities, such as the Coast Guard and Department of Interior, to resolve disputes arising out of oil spill response and cleanup activities. He also served as on site legal counsel in the incident command centers and successfully resolved numerous disputes with vessel owners for damages from exposure to oil.
In addition to the Deepwater Horizon incident, Mr. Brickman has successfully represented major shipping companies, energy companies and liability insurers in cases involving ship collisions, personal injuries and cargo damage.
Mr. Brickman’s experience is not limited to marine casualties and litigation. He represents clients, including major cruise lines and members of the International Group of P&I Clubs, in matters of customs and immigration law involving the reduction of substantial fines imposed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection for alleged violations of shipping and commerce regulations.
In addition, he counsels clients in matters involving general litigation, major loan financing and refinancing, commercial transactions, charter parties, master service agreements and contract disputes.
